Lapad is one of the best areas of Dubrovnik for beaches, seaside walks, restaurants, family-friendly stays, and relaxed evenings away from the busiest Old Town crowds. It is about 3 km west of Dubrovnik Old Town and is easy to reach by bus, taxi, Uber, or a short drive.
As Dubrovnik locals, we often recommend Lapad to visitors who want a calmer base, better beach access, and a more spacious neighborhood without being far from the historic center. Lapad is not a replacement for Old Town — it is the part of Dubrovnik that helps you slow down, swim, eat well, and enjoy the city like a local. It’s close enough to reach the Old Town easily, but different enough to feel like another side of the city.
In fact, Lapad is often included in many 3-Day Dubrovnik itineraries because it balances the city’s historic sights with beaches, sunset walks, local restaurants, and fun activities away from the busiest crowds.
For a wider overview of the city, start with our full guide to the best things to do in Dubrovnik, then use this Lapad guide to plan beaches, sunset walks, restaurants, and local activities away from the Old Town crowds.
Yes, Lapad is worth visiting if you want a more relaxed side of Dubrovnik with beaches, sea views, restaurants, cafés, walking paths, and family-friendly activities. It is especially good for families, couples, beach lovers, sunset walks, and visitors who want a break from the stairs and crowds of the Old Town.
The best things to do in Lapad are walking the Lapad promenade, relaxing at Sunset Beach, exploring Petka Forest, watching the sunset, eating by the sea, and trying a unique indoor activity such as Puzzle Punks Escape Room in Lapad.
Lapad is a coastal neighborhood located about 3 km west of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. It’s known for Sunset Beach, the Lapad promenade, and a relaxed atmosphere with many restaurants and cafés (like the popuar Cave bar).
Yes. Lapad is one of the best areas to stay in Dubrovnik if you want easy beach access, good restaurants, and a quieter atmosphere compared to the busy Old Town.
One of the foremost advantages of staying in Lapad is the ease and affordability of parking. Unlike the notoriously challenging Old Town, Lapad provides readily available parking options, whether you’re travelling with lots of luggage or planning to do some grocery shopping for your stay. Having your vehicle nearby ensures convenience and flexibility throughout your visit.
Lapad boasts a diverse selection of accommodation, including hotels and apartments, all offering exceptional value. While Old Town accommodations can be pricey and often come with steep staircases, Lapad provides a range of options to suit various budgets and preferences. Plus, the architecture in Lapad tends to be more modern, ensuring better soundproofing and a peaceful night’s sleep.
While Old Town remains the most popular destination in Dubrovnik, it’s no secret that it can become incredibly crowded, especially during the peak tourist season. Lapad, on the other hand, offers a tranquil and less congested atmosphere, allowing you to relax and enjoy your surroundings without the constant hustle and bustle.
Lapad is synonymous with pristine beaches, offering a greater selection for sun-seekers. Whether you prefer a secluded cove or a vibrant beachfront, Lapad has it all. You can bask in the sun, take refreshing dips, or indulge in water sports—all within easy reach of your accommodation.
Lapad is better if you want beaches, easier parking, more space, quieter evenings, and better value accommodation. Old Town is better if you want to stay inside the historic center and walk to the main sights immediately.
For most first-time visitors, the best choice depends on your travel style:
– Stay in Old Town if you want history, atmosphere, restaurants, and sightseeing right outside your door.
– Stay in Lapad if you want beaches, sunset walks, calmer evenings, and easier family travel.
– Visit both if you can. Old Town is best for sightseeing, while Lapad is best for slowing down.
Local tip: Many visitors enjoy Dubrovnik most when they explore Old Town in the morning, then spend the afternoon or evening in Lapad.
When it comes to exploring Dubrovnik, the Lapad area offers a wealth of exciting activities to make your visit unforgettable.
After spending the morning exploring the Old Town or relaxing on the beach, many visitors look for something fun and different to do in the afternoon.
Whether you’re an adventure seeker, a romantic couple, or a family looking for fun, Lapad has something special to offer. One of Dubrovnik’s top-rated experiences is also located here. In this guide, we’ll dive into the must-try experiences that make Lapad a gem within Dubrovnik’s crown.
Best for: Beach time, families, friends, couples, swimming, and easy summer afternoons
Good to know: Sunset Beach is one of the most convenient beaches in Lapad, but it can get busy in high season.
Sunset Beach is the main beach in Lapad and one of the easiest places to swim without leaving the neighborhood. It has a mix of pebbles and partly sandy areas, nearby cafés, restaurants, beach bars, and easy access from the Lapad promenade.
This is a good choice if you want a simple beach stop with facilities close by. Families like it because everything is nearby, while couples and friends often come later in the day for drinks, sea views, and sunset.
Local tip: Check the nearby beaches – only 5 min walk away are Adriatic beach & Vis beach (in front of the equally named hotels) with inflatable water park (great for kids).
Best for: Couples, confident swimmers, peaceful sea views, and quieter beach time
Good to know: Many swimming spots in this area are rocky, so water shoes are useful.
If Sunset Beach feels too busy, walk along the coastal path toward Babin Kuk. This part of Lapad has rocky swimming spots, hotel beaches, pine shade, and quieter corners where you can enjoy the sea with fewer crowds.
It is better for confident swimmers than for small children, but it is one of the nicest areas in Lapad if you want a more relaxed Adriatic swimming experience away from the busiest beach areas.
Best for: Active travelers, teens, groups of friends, and adventurous families
Good to know: Water sports are seasonal and weather-dependent, so check availability before planning your day around them.
President beach (in front of hotel President) is only a 15 minute stroll away from the promenade. This is where you will find Abyss Watersports with a wide range of activities such as jet skiing, banana rides, tubes, parasailing, stand-up paddleboarding, wakeboarding, and other beach activities.
This is a good choice if you want to add something active to a beach day. For families, it works best with older kids and teens who are confident in the water.
After a morning at the beach, many visitors head back toward the promenade where cafés, restaurants, and a few fun indoor activities offer a break from the sun.
Best for: Couples, families, stroller walks, cafés, restaurants, and relaxed evenings
Good to know: The promenade is one of the easiest car-free walks in Dubrovnik.
The Lapad promenade is the heart of the neighborhood and one of the best places in Dubrovnik for a relaxed walk outside the Old Town. It is lined with cafés, restaurants, small bars, ice cream stops, and easy access to the beach. You’ll find the full restaurant and bar recommendations later in this guide.
The promenade walk works well at almost any time of day, but evenings are especially nice. Locals and visitors come here for dinner, drinks, sunset walks, and a slower atmosphere than you usually find around the Old Town.
Best for: Couples, photographers, families, and relaxed evening plans
Good to know: Sunset Beach is the easiest spot, but the coastal path toward Babin Kuk is usually calmer.
Lapad is one of the best areas of Dubrovnik for sunset because the bay faces west over the Adriatic. The most convenient place to watch is Sunset Beach, where you can sit by the sea or have a drink nearby.
For a quieter sunset, continue toward the end of the promenade, and you will find a great sunset spot in front of Hotel President on Babin Kuk. If you are up for a short climb Mala Petka hill has panoramic views over Lapad Bay and the Adriatic.
It is a simple plan, but often one of the most memorable parts of an evening in Dubrovnik. After a relaxing afternoon — whether swimming, walking the promenade, or solving puzzles with friends — Lapad sunsets feel even better.
Best for: Families with toddlers, younger kids, school-age children, teens
Good to know: Lapad is much easier with kids than Old Town because it has more flat walking areas and fewer stairs.
Lapad is one of the most family-friendly neighborhoods in Dubrovnik. The pedestrian promenade gives children more space to move, and the area has beaches, small playgrounds, arcade games, coin-operated kiddie rides, ice cream shops, and casual restaurants.
For younger children, Lapad works well because you can mix short walks with beach time, snacks, and simple activities. For more energetic kids, there is the water inflatable park close to hotel Adriatic (operating only in season). For more family planning, read our full guide to visiting Dubrovnik with kids.
Lapad isn’t just about beaches and restaurants. There are several fun things to do in Lapad, from relaxing nature walks to interactive indoor experiences.
Best for: Couples, families, friends, teens, rainy days, and hot afternoons
Good to know: Puzzle Punks Escape Room is in Lapad, inside DOC Shopping Center, about 10 minutes from Dubrovnik Old Town.
Puzzle Punks Escape Room turns Dubrovnik’s history, legends, and fantasy atmosphere into an interactive adventure, making it one of the most memorable indoor activities in Dubrovnik. It is a great choice if you’re looking for something different after a morning at the beach, a walk along the Lapad promenade, or sightseeing in the Old Town. It’s currently ranked #1 in the Fun & Games category in Dubrovnik on Tripadvisor, and has more than 1,000 five-star reviews.
The escape room features story-driven adventures inspired by Dubrovnik’s history, legends and the world of Game of Thrones. Players work together to uncover clues, solve puzzles, and complete a mission before time runs out.
Save King’s Landing is the more challenging mission, and works especially well for Game of Thrones fans, groups, and players who enjoy complex puzzles. Dubrovnik Legends is slightly more beginner-friendly and a great introduction for first-time escape room players, families, and visitors who want a Dubrovnik-inspired story.
It’s a fun activity for couples, families, and groups of friends — especially during hot afternoons or rainy weather.
Many visitors discover the escape room while exploring Lapad and later say it ended up being one of the most memorable hours of their Dubrovnik trip.

It is a good choice if you want greenery, shade, and a more local-feeling break from the promenade. For the best experience, go early in the morning or later in the day when the heat is softer.
Best for: Couples, friends, families, and relaxed summer evenings
Good to know: Check the current programme, start time, language, subtitles, and ticket price before going.
Summer Cinema Lapad is one of the nicest low-key evening activities in the neighborhood. Watching a film outdoors under the stars feels very different from a normal cinema, especially after a beach day or sunset walk.
Many international films are shown in their original language with Croatian subtitles, but the programme changes, so always check the current schedule before planning your evening.
Best for: Couples, friends, groups, and travelers who want an easy guided activity
Good to know: Check current availability before planning around it, especially outside the main season.
A Segway city tour can be a fun way to explore Lapad without doing a long walk in the summer heat. It works best for visitors who want something light, scenic, and a little different from the usual beach-and-restaurant plan.
This is a better fit for adults and older kids than for families with very young children. If you are short on time, choose this as a quick activity rather than a main reason to visit Lapad.
Best for: Couples, solo travelers, wellness breaks, and slower travel days
Good to know: Book ahead and check the current schedule, because wellness activities may change by season.
If you want something calmer than beaches, bars, or sightseeing, Lapad also has wellness options such as sound massage and yoga/pilates classes. These are good choices when you need a slower day, especially after several days of walking, stairs, and summer heat.
This kind of activity fits Lapad well because the neighborhood already has a more relaxed pace than the Old Town.
Lapad is one of the easiest areas in Dubrovnik for a relaxed meal or drink outside the Old Town. The neighborhood has seaside restaurants, casual cafés, sports bars, local favorites, and a few memorable places that are worth visiting even if you are staying elsewhere.
For a simple plan, come to Lapad in the late afternoon, walk the promenade, watch the sunset, then stay for dinner or drinks.
If you’re trying to save money while visiting Dubrovnik, here are some tips for exploring Dubrovnik on a budget.

Best for: Unique drinks, cave atmosphere, sea views, couples, and first-time visitors
Good to know: It is more of a memorable drink stop than a full dinner plan.
Cave Bar More is one of the most unusual bars in Dubrovnik because part of it is set inside a natural cave. It also has a seafront terrace, so you can combine the cave interior with sea views in the same visit.
This is a good place for a coffee, cocktail, or evening drink when you want something more memorable than a standard bar. It is especially useful in summer because the cave setting offers a cooler break from the heat.
Best for: Coffee, casual drinks, people-watching, and easy promenade stops
Good to know: A simple choice when you want to sit down without making a big plan.
Cafe Bar Promenade is a casual stop along the Lapad promenade, useful for coffee, drinks, and relaxed people-watching. It works well before or after a walk, especially if you want somewhere easy rather than a destination restaurant.
Best for: Watching football, casual drinks, groups of friends, and low-key evenings
Good to know: A practical choice when you want screens, sport, and a relaxed pub atmosphere.
Sports Pub Mario is a good option in Lapad if you want to watch football or other major sports while in Dubrovnik. It has a casual atmosphere, multiple screens, and a simple pub feel.
This is not the place for a romantic dinner, but it is useful when there is a match on and you want somewhere easy with drinks and a local crowd.
Best for: Pub food, Guinness, casual drinks, sports, and shaded outdoor seating
Good to know: Check what is showing if you are planning to watch a specific match.
Celtic Bar Belfast is a casual Irish-style pub in Lapad with drinks, pub food, and a relaxed outdoor area. It is a good option if you want something informal after the beach or promenade.
The large screen outside shows major sports events (European/World Championships, the Olympics…)

Best for: Local ingredients, homemade pasta, Croatian wines, and a proper dinner
Good to know: Reservations are recommended in high season.
Pantarul is one of Lapad’s best-known local restaurants and a strong choice if you want a more polished dinner without going into the Old Town. The menu focuses on seasonal ingredients, fresh fish, homemade pasta and bread, and Croatian wines.
It is a good fit for couples, food-focused travelers, and visitors who want something more local than a quick beach meal. We love it because it sources local ingredients from Dubrovnik’s surrounding farmers, to give you a fresh, healthy and authentic dining experience.
Best for: Seafood, Mediterranean dishes, garden seating, and relaxed dinners
Good to know: A good choice if you want fish or seafood in a less formal setting.
El Pulpo Fish Bar is a useful Lapad option for Mediterranean seafood, fresh fish, and a relaxed dinner. The garden terrace makes it feel calmer than eating directly on a busy promenade.
This is a good middle-ground choice: more of a proper meal than a quick snack, but still relaxed enough for an easy evening in Lapad.
Best for: Sea views, sunset dinners, Mediterranean food, couples, and special evenings
Good to know: It is located toward the end of the Lapad promenade, so it pairs well with a coastal walk.
Levanat is one of the best Lapad restaurants for a scenic dinner by the sea. It serves Mediterranean dishes, including fish and meat options, and works especially well for sunset or a slower evening meal.
Choose Levanat when the view matters as much as the food. It is a good option for couples, families celebrating something, or anyone who wants dinner away from the Old Town crowds.
Best for: Asian-inspired dishes, something different, and a break from Mediterranean food
Good to know: A useful option when you want a change from seafood, pizza, and Dalmatian classics.
Trinity is a good choice in Lapad if you want something different from the usual Dubrovnik restaurant mix. Its oriental fusion menu gives visitors an alternative to seafood, grilled meat, pasta, and pizza.
This is especially useful on longer stays, when you have already had several Mediterranean meals and want a change of flavor.
Lapad is one of the best areas to stay in Dubrovnik if you want easy beach access, good restaurants, and a quieter atmosphere compared to the Old Town. The neighborhood offers a wide range of accommodation, from seaside hotels to private apartments just steps from the promenade.
Lapad’s hotels are renowned for their excellent beachfront locations, ensuring you’re just steps away from the crystal-clear waters. You can choose from a variety of hotel styles and budgets, from family friendly (Valamar being top leader with its Maro World entertainment park and family content) to luxurious Hotel Palace with its breathtaking sunset views and impeccable service. If you are looking for a budget option, try Royal Neptun Hotel, with a great location and great value for price!
Alternatively, apartments in Lapad are often a budget-friendlier option. Usually they come with parking options, thanks to the wider streets and more spacious surroundings compared to Old Town. If not, parking is much cheaper and easier to find. Use Booking engine to search or contact the owners directly to avoid booking costs (and potentially get a discount on the price listed).
Lapad is located about 3 km from Dubrovnik Old Town and is easy to reach by bus, taxi, or a short drive. Buses 4 and 6 run frequently between Old Town and Lapad, making it one of the most convenient neighborhoods to visit or stay in.
Ways to reach Lapad:
• Bus 4 or 6 – 10–15 minutes
• Taxi or Uber – about 5–10 minutes
• Walking – around 40 minutes along the coast
Follow in the footsteps of the locals and hop on one of the regular buses, either No. 6 or No. 4, which run every 15 minutes. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes, offering a quick and budget-friendly transportation option. No. 4 conveniently stops next to Sunset Beach and the bar, while No. 6 drops you off at the beginning of the promenade, close to the DOC shopping center.
If you have Dubrovnik Pass, bus ticket is included.
Taxi or Uber is usually the quickest option, especially in summer heat, with luggage, or when traveling with children. Uber is usually significantly cheaper than regular taxi services. Expect to pay around 8 to 10 euros for the journey. Prices can change depending on traffic, demand, and time of day, so check the app or agree on the price before starting the ride.
If the weather is agreeable and you’re up for some light exercise, consider taking a pleasant 45-minute stroll from Old Town to Lapad. This scenic walk allows you to soak in the beauty of the surroundings while getting a feel for the city at your own pace.
When weighing your options, keep in mind that regular taxis tend to be pricier, sometimes even double the cost of an Uber ride.
The bus ticket is an economical choice at just 2.50 euros, making it a practical option for budget-conscious travelers. With the affordability and convenience of the bus system, you can explore Lapad without any hassle.

Can you tell me which is the nearest beach to Hotel Lapad where we’ll be staying in May?
Hi Tracey, you have more options. Sunset beach is 2km away (about 20min walk), its great cus there are also lots of bars and restaurants there, and a lovely promenade. Other direction, but also about 2 km away is Copacabana beach. You can find them easily with google.
Lapad is brilliant . The only drawback is the cost of sunbeds on the pebble beach. 50 euros each. Far too expensive
What, thats how much you paid on Sunset beach? Thats crazy. This year they wont be operating, as the company lost concession due to tax debt and some other malversations. Hope the new company that gets the concession will be far more down to earth:))
Hi we are staying in Bosanka in a couple of weeks .Would it be possible to get a bus from there or will it have to be a Uber thanks Leanda
Hi Leanda, sorry for the late reply, i just realized you made a comment. My suggestion would be to use Uber cus its the simplest and fastest. There is a bus to Bosanka, but not directly from Lapad, you have to switch buses and it doesn’t go that often. Uber or Bolt are definitely your best options.
