The locals do whatever they can to stay away from the Old Town because of the notorious crowds and heat that comes with the summer months. If you are visiting Old Town Dubrovnik filming locations in the summer here are some local tips:
They were filming in the off season when there is not as many people in town. Dubrovnik is popular from April – October. Throughout hte winter months (November to February) the city gets an entirely different look. The streets are almost empty, the crowds are non existent.
Good questions. Actually, during the filming, the neghbouring houses had to keep shut all windows (blinds as well) to prevent anyone seeing, filming and leaking important scenes. Ofcourse, this did not go without compensation – local people say they have been paid around 500 euro per day per window.
Actually, there were quite a bit of issues with this scene. First of all, Dubrovnik is a very religious place (which you can imagine just from the amount of churches in the Old Town). They did not like the idea of a naked woman walking down the street of their beloved city. Dubrovnik church tried to block the Walk of Shame from filming the naked scene as it was potentially runining their reputation of a prude place. They were calling upon the city’s policy against public displays of sexuality.
Indeed, Dubrovnik even nowadays prohibits walking in swimwear within the old town limits, which they consider a large outdoor museum. It’s part of “Respect the City” policy, which aims to educate tourists about proper behaviour and respecting the local heritage and customs. The fine for walking in a swim suit (or topless or nude) can be up to 265 euros.
In the end, the filmmakermanaged to negotiate filming the scene, but had to move it to a different, less popular location within the OldTown.
In conclusion, Dubrovnik is a must-visit destination for Game of Thrones fans and tourists alike. The city’s stunning architecture, rich history, and beautiful landscapes make it the perfect location for filming a TV series. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just looking for a unique travel experience, you can defeinitely find your own Game of Thrones inspired adventure in Dubrovnik!
